Join Tim and Brett as they fly fish the famous Eleven Mile Canyon of the South Platte River during the summer of 2020.
To access Eleven Mile Canyon, take Hwy 24 one hour west of Colorado Springs to Lake George, CO. Turn south on County Road 96 and follow it a few miles out of town. Follow the sign to Eleven Mile Canyon and stop at the Forest Service kiosk. Posted is information on camping and fishing. A $7.00 fee is assessed by the U.S. Forest Service for every vehicle entering the canyon for the day. Camping is seasonal but fishing access in the canyon is open year round.
Fishing is restricted to artificial flies and lures and is a catch & release fishery. Rainbow, cutthroat, cuttbow, and brown trout can be caught here with most fish sized in the 10"-18" range. Don't be fooled though, there are trout in the 20" plus range caught here too.
The crowds on spring and summer weekends can be a bit much to deal with, especially the closer to the dam you go. But on summer weekdays and in the winter, the crowds vanish and most anglers who are fishing the canyon practice proper riverside etiquette.
