Blue River (Silverthorne)

Join Kyle, John, and Tim on a early 2020 spring fishing trip through the  mountain town of Silverthorne, Colorado as they fish the Gold Medal  waters of the infamous Blue River.

Blue River Below Dillon

Blue River Access

Access on the Blue River below Dillon Reservoir spans from the Denver Water Board fence off of River Rd, north past the outlet mall, under 1-70, and follows Highway 9 north out of the town and eventually dumps into Green Mountain Reservoir 26 miles downstream.

The fishing is typically excellent on the entire stretch with the bigger fish being caught with more frequency the closer to Dillon Reservoir one gets. But don't discount the less pressured water below the outlet mall or near the mouth of Green Mountain Reservoir.

Rainbows, browns, cuttroat, cuttbows, and even brook trout can be caught in this fishery year round. In the fall the kokanee salmon make a run out of Green Mountain into the Blue.

This is another one of my go-to patterns for the Blue RIver. Try tying it not only in black, but also in copper!
